Motiv8’s Science

The Science Behind Motiv8’s Precision Behavior Change Platform - Our Groundbreaking Field Test

Motiv8: Championing Science-Driven Behavior Change

At Motiv8, our culture is deeply rooted in a commitment to science and evidence-based methods. We believe in the transformative power of research-driven strategies to improve health and well-being.

Our Rigorous Field Test

To validate our approach, we conducted a comprehensive IRB-supervised field test involving 635 volunteers. We utilized three clinically validated, psychologically diverse Behavior Change Techniques (BCTs), exploring the dynamic interplay of these methods across varied psychographic profiles. Through extensive surveys, we measured 25 individual differences, providing a rich dataset for analysis.

Psychographic Sequencing Predicts Behavior Change Technique Effectiveness

This meticulous approach enabled us to validate our hypothesis: individual differences significantly moderate the effectiveness of BCTs - a person’s psychographics predict which behavior change strategy will work the best for them. This insight is pivotal, affirming the need for precision behavior change interventions vs. a one-size-fits-all model.

Scaling Behavior Change Up to 7x

Scaling behavior change requires a dramatic increase over the modest effect sizes achieved by the majority of today’s efforts. Machine learning simulations on our field test data shows that matching behavior change strategies to individuals using our psychographic segmentation model can increase effect sizes by 7x.

In other words, in a real-world application, Precision Behavior Change can multiply the number of your users, members, or customers who successfully achieve their behavior change goals, and increase their renewals rates with your business.

We are preparing a scientific paper for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

Testimonials

“I appreciated the motivation for three or four months. I was able to create a mindset of movement… Thank you for helping to get me on the active path.”

“Instead of a prescription, it actually engaged me in the process.  It suggested several very simple and reasonable and DIFFERENT ways of setting goals and asked me to pick one.  I had never seen anything like this.”

“This comes at a good time for me.  I’ve really been neglecting my level of activity.  This participation will help me renew my commitment.  Congrats on the great work!”
